Guests praise these mid-century modern rooms for their spacious layout, unbeatable location on Duval Street, and a clean, warm pool. However, the experience is volatile depending on staff availability, with multiple reports of deceptive communication regarding parking and discounts alongside instances of unprofessionalism.
We came to Key West to celebrate a milestone birthday! We chose Blue Marlin because of its amazing location to everything and we were right for the choice on that front. A few days prior to arrival I wanted to order some balloons and flowers to be placed in the birthday girls room prior to the check in day, and the woman answering the phone could not be bothered with any kind of request like this. She was short, and also lacked any hospitality or service skills. So that was a complete bummer for our surprise. However there is a theme of service I will talk more about out. All in all the surprise couldn’t be carried out it was not a big deal but it was a nothing thing if she only would listen to the request. When we finally arrived and checked in we were greeted by two individuals: Caludine and Stephan. Throughout our entire stay CLAUDINE was so hospitable and kind to us! She really went out of her way to make us feel welcome and kudos should be given to her and her professionalism. She is a service oriented staff member, others should emulate. Now on the other hand, Stephan - not kind at all. He’s very short and not friendly whatsoever. When we checked in we wanted to take advantage of our AARP discount as it stated this in the email we received from the Blur Marlin. He exclaimed codes like “rack” which we had no idea what he was talking about saying we booked the hotel with a third party and we could not apply any AARP discount. This was a total LIE. We booked both rooms through the Blue Marlin website on 8-6-2025 (see original email photos with All my information). So he was extremely rude and wrong. We let it go but all should know about this should you decide to do the same. While we were staying, the birthday girl found two palmetto bugs running around the floor in her room. Look, we’re in Florida and are Florida natives. We know these things are around. But she went to the front desk to ask for perhaps some extermination or something but was met with STEPHAN saying to her “Well why didn’t you kill them”. I mean this is a fine guy answer to a guy but not perhaps a lady and how hospitable is that answer?? We were helped after by CLAUDINE who seems to always save the day when it comes to service. Other things: we were impressed by the daily room service. It was nice to have it done everyday and to come back with a clean room. One thing to consider is they use massive amounts of bleach. The room was just loaded with it each day. So if you are sensitive this may be something to note. The rooms were very clean! It was great to have TWO sinks in the rooms! The AC was perfect. The continental breakfast was a nice touch for everyday and the pool is also very clean. All in all it was a good stay. Service can be questionable as it relates to dealing with STEPHAN and it seems he’s there a lot. It was a good value vs. other hotels in the area for a fairly good stay. The location, again, is amazing to everything.
We had a wonderful stay at the Blue Marlin Hotel in Key West. The staff was very friendly and welcoming, and the location was excellent—close to everything. We really enjoyed the nice pool and having breakfast on the patio. The facilities were clean and well maintained, which made our stay very comfortable. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it.
A hidden gem. One of the best remodeling on a older hotel i have ever seen. Staff friendly. Parking spots a bit small for bigger suvs. But considering location and price...I would stay there again.
When I booked the room, this was the cheapest choice for a four-person room, so honestly I didn’t expect much. But after actually staying here, I was truly amazed. Spacious space, close to everything. I highly recommend it.
Blue Marlin Motel is awesome! It’s a great location and the rooms are very nice. The best part has been Nani at the front desk. She was so welcoming and nice to everyone who walked in. What a breath of fresh air. She breathes hospitality and people like her are gems!
I stayed here for 2 nights with a few relatives. Upon arrival we had a heartwarming greeting at the front desk. The employee (sadly forgot the name) pointed everything of interest out to us and was very friendly. The room was clean, well equipped, the beds were comfortable and the wifi was very fast. We also enjoyed the large pool, which was right in the middle of the property. Lastly i'd line to mention the central location of the motel with walking distance to all popular sights in Key West. We had a really pleasant stay and will come back in the future!
Hotel was clean no problems with room. The day we arrived we went to the pool late afternoon and on the deck of the pool was what looked I like dog ?, it could have some other kind of animal but we reported it to the office . We were told that it has already been reported. Long story short it was still there 2 days later when we left! No excuse it should have been cleaned up the first time it was reported. Disappointing after the reviews for the place were good
Omg the lady at the front desk ??? We actually stopped in the office on our way out on the town just to hang out with her! She really made our stay a fun experience! She REALLY needs a stage ? I would pay to see her again! The room was very clean. The pool was amazing. The continental breakfast was small but did the job (cream cheese for your bagel is in a small fridge with the yogurt) -- I did not realize this the first day ? Location was a lot for walking so I would recommend renting something with a motor ?
We stayed here 2 nights and it was great. Room was clean pool was clean and the front desk host was amazing, funny, and full of life. Nice person to be around. I'd definitely recommend this location and would definitely return myself. Thanks for a nice stay!!
The room was clean, updated, and surprisingly chic, exactly the kind of space that lulls you into thinking you’ve checked into something special. Nadia at check-in was warm and welcoming, pointing out the pool and breakfast. I thought I was in for a smooth stay. Then came breakfast: coffee, yogurt, and apples. When I asked if there was anything else, the attendant brought… more apples. Hardly the “good morning” I imagined. This was upsetting but I was willing to overlook this because there are lots of good eats nearby, so I go to check out and I politely ask if I can leave my car parked after check out only so we could get breakfast (which was not provided), the lady checking me out said “you can leave it here til 12” …it was 10:50… I said “can I leave here just til 1?” Then the other younger front desk lady says loudly “We are fully booked tonight and we need the parking”… I gave them a shocked look and the room fell silent for 30 seconds while they tried to dodge eye contact with me. I’ve worked at hotels and knew this was a bold faced lie. I said “really, on a Monday night?” They both started apologizing, both saying “I’m really sorry” while dodging any eye contact and twiddling their hands. I just walked out. I was totally willing and ready to accept “no” as an answer, but to lie to a customers face when they are asking a pretty common question is completely disrespectful, rude, and embarrassing. I will not be staying here again.
