The Lighthouse Hotel in Key West offers a charming, historic stay with a convenient location just blocks from Duval Street and the Hemingway House. Recent reviews highlight a positive experience with friendly staff and a welcoming atmosphere, especially around the pool bar, but some guests have reported issues with rudeness from certain staff members and room maintenance concerns.
I came down to Key West looking to find a fun angle for something I'm currently working on. I must say, I found it with my stay at the Lighthouse Hotel. I have to begin this by making perfectly clear that the negative things I am about to say have no reflection of how I feel about the Lighthouse Hotel property or staff. Both were immaculate on every single level. My problem with my stay was with the other guests staying at the hotel. My partner and I were being verbally harassed every time we came out of our rooms by the other guests staying there. He had made the accommodation plans so I had no idea what I was walking into. It was truly appalling to see such trashy behavior coming from people staying in such a gorgeous environment. We were going to say something to the front office but we overheard the group saying that they live in Key West and they are all good friends with the people who own that property. So, we decided to ignore them and to make a post here about our experience instead. I would have greatly preferred to have kept this private but, when you can't trust the people around you, one must become loud. I do look forward to making my next trip down to Key West after my project is finished and see how my presence is received. I myself am a born and raised Floridian and I have come to find one thing in common with all of the beautiful, tropical places my home state has to offer; they are sunny places for shady people.
This is a very clean, well maintained hotel with absolutely wonderful bar staff (Jefferson and Alejandro) that are very helpful and love the job that they do. The location is 1 block off of Duval, directly across from the Hemingway house and next door to the lighthouse. It’s an easy walk to anywhere you need to go. It’s a small place which we loved since you don’t feel overcrowded. The breakfast was very nice and the drinks at the bar were phenomenal. The bed was very comfortable and the shower had excellent water pressure. I definitely recommend staying here.
We enjoyed our stay (1 week) at Lighthouse Court very much. Enjoyed the peace and quiet that it offered in proximity to the great restaurants and music easily accessible nearby. The room and grounds were clean and pleasant keeping with the historic nature of the property. The small room (Thimble) had its challenges as the furniture was somewhat uncomfortable. The bed was quite comfortable and the staff was pleasant. Breakfast was good and fresh but would have liked something warm. In summary, it is a very nice place to vacation. This was our 3rd stay.
I gave our 6 night, 7 day stay overall a five star rating. ? ???? The location and service was perfect. The Lighthouse Hotel is close enough to all the attractions that we walked everywhere. One block from Duval Street, about a 10 min walk to the Butterfly experience and the Southernmost Point of the Continental U.S. for a photo op with the famous buoy. About 15-25 min walk down to the Aquaruim, Mallory Sq,The Sunset Peir and JBs Shrimpboat Sound Recording Studio. A 25 min walk to Fort Zachery Fort and beach. While at the hotel we spent most of our time pool side at Isabel's with Jefferson, our top notch bartender and host for the week. 5 star to him ? ????. He was skilled, professional and his hospitality was exceptional. He was engagable, offering history and personal experiences of Key West to make us love it even more. Best host ever. He made me a few special high-quality drinks as I celebrated my birthday. This hotel is quaint, dog friendy with a tropical feel. It does have no dog designated areas. The palm trees and greenery flowing in the breeze throughout is absolute heaven. The grounds offer ample intimate shadded sitting areas. There is a small heated pool. The pool side bar Isabel's includes a welcome drink, breakfast with exceptional bar service. They offer coffee, tea, water and ice 24/7. The stay included breakfast until 10am. Bagels, toast, pastries, fruit, hard-boiled eggs, tomatoes and mozzarella bites. And they have a small breakfast menu to purchase. For sale at Isabel's they have directional signposts that you can paint where you're from and they hang them up. The pool is small but offers enough seating for breakfast and daily lounging. Chairs and chaise lounges, tables with seats and umbrellas. Offering some light entertainment, musicians on the weekend days. Our room, the thimble room, had a cute nautical type feel. The room was small and dated and the mattress was waaaay to firm for my liking. Aside from the lampshades being a bit dusty, and the moisture in the atmospher feeling damp the place was clean and comfortable. Outside our room they had a seating area with nice looking but uncomfortable chairs. However they do have these amazing hammock type swing chairs that were very comfortable. All the staff was truly was amazing. The women who checked us in and out was very friendly, informative, personable and had a great sense of humor. The gentleman in the evening with the cutsie dog was very nice too. Hats off to the behind the scene kitchen staff. They offered a clean area high quality, tasty breakfast. The housekeeping staff were there when we needed them to exchange towels, provide service or exchange a broken hand soap dispenser promptly. No complaints other than coming in late in the evening to my CPAP mask being face down on the floor and not tucked behind my pillow where I left it. Despite these few minor nuances I give our vacation at the Light House Hotel, five star????? Thankyou from Boston, MA
Lovely bungalow. The pool bar serves a nice continental breakfast and wonderful afternoon/evening drinks. The staff are fun and very helpful. It is a quiet spot (except for the roosters, which are all over Key West!), right across from the Hemmingway House and excellent restaurants nearby. We love it here! ??
Best hidden gem on Key West. Great location. You can easily walk to anywhere from this place. Rooms are super clean and staff is phenomenal. Pool area is great too! If I had one small complaint, it is that the rooms are super small. Other than that, this place is perfect.
Perfect location, old and charming. My negative review is mainly based on being treated rudely by two employees. We were told the Keurig would be available 24/7. Being an early bird I always have a coffee early. The woman preparing breakfast everyday removed the keurig early and her prepared coffee came out an hour or more later. When I asked for the k cups to make a cup I was treated rudely and the woman at the front desk also treated me rudely, questioning the veracity of my complaints and threatened to look at security cameras to prove me wrong. No effort was made to accommodate early birds. No apologies. Negative hostile reaction Other patrons looking for an early cup also were looking for the k cups. Also we had half and half only one day and the same for the potatoes onions and peppers advertised for the omelet. We were there four days and it just was a negative experience due to the way we guests were treated.
The room floor was uneven and mushy, I thought I might fall thru. The bathroom had few essentials, no face clothes, only one hook to hang towels. The tv cabinet drawers didn't close, and the TV inside was lopsided. Nothing special about this room at all, even smelled musty and run down. Maybe it was just my room, I don't know. The property was nice, nice pool, nice bar, Continental breakfast was good. Directly across from the Hemingway House. No parking at all, street parking only. The staff was very nice and accommodating.
I’ve stayed at the Lighthouse Hotel multiple times and keep coming back. It’s not a five-star resort—and it’s not trying to be—but it does exactly what you need. The location is excellent, right across from the Hemingway House, and everything is easy to walk to. The staff is consistently helpful and welcoming. One of the best touches is the live music by the pool and bar—it adds a great vibe without feeling loud or chaotic. Overall, it’s a dependable, well-located place that fits the spirit of Key West.
We had a very comfortable stay here. The property is beautiful, the rooms were cozy, and breakfast was excellent. Parking was a bit of a nightmare (as it often is in Key West), but the staff was very helpful in explaining our options. The pool needing to be closed for deck repairs wasn’t a huge issue since we spent most of our time at the beaches anyway. What I took issue with was being charged the full amenity fee even though the pool and bar area were closed for a good portion of our stay. Aside from that, everything else was great, and this could easily be a 5-star experience with a little more attention to that detail. Will likely return in the future and update my review.
